Yes we are still in it!

Woefully absent from this platform, my extreme apologies!  Seems like Instagram and Facebook have dominated the posts for a long while, and it is time to remedy that!

Just a little timeline news.  In 2022 Susan led the team of artists from Grenada to the pavilion at Biennale di Venezia to show off our collective work on Shakespeare Mas. You can get more details from grenadavenice.org/archive It was fabulously successful with over 100,000 people visiting.

Here is my contribution in painting --

The Grenada Contemporary came off in Late October of 2022 at Art House 473 -- see the catalog here.

And forward ever, the Grenada Pavilion for the  18th Architectural Biennale di Venezia, which you can see at Grenadavenice.org

An look back at the unknown...

I have been painting women images for decades, but for awhile I stopped using the adinkra symbols from Ghana.  Too much talk of "appropriation" and who has a right to tell the stories.

My historian Friend John Angus Martin recently said, "I like to think of the unknown as an exploration, a way of finding out truths hidden in our history..."

So here come the ladies again--a bit of mystery still intrigues us, and their allure is a Westindian melange.

You, Me, and Everyone we know -- Quarantine

Since mid March I have been home, sequestered, quarantined, isolated.  Not alone--my husband and three dogs provide enough entertainment.

And red fish.  You know that I have followed themes for many years-- I jump down a rabbit hole and am compelled to chase until it catches me.

Who knows why these red fish have been my muse of choice for the past inside weeks.  I have had a thought ever since reading 100 Years of Solitude and then later Love in a Time of Cholera by Gabriel Garcia Marquez of a scene he paints with words.  It is a drawing room, in a time of severe heat and humidity.  He envisions red fish swimming in a school through the air. For years I have played with the idea that I should paint that.

So, here come the fish.  The fish of my dreams.  The fish of my imagination.  The red fish.  I tried to stop, but everything I painted was trash.  So I scraped the surface and painted a fish.

"One fish, two fish, RED fish, blue fish." Dr. Seuss

We don't really know when this will be over.  WE DON'T REALLY KNOW WHEN THIS WILL BE OVER!!!

Until, I continue to paint.

Grenada Sailing Festival--its time!!!

Its that time of year again.  Its no secret at all that the wooden workboats of Grenada and the Grenadines are favourite subjects of my paintings.

Here a few ahead of the races on Grand Anse Beach on Feb 2-3. See you on Grand Anse Beach!
